The government of Andhra Pradesh plans to promote the spirit of worship of nature, water and river through the ‘Godavari Maha Pushkaram 2015’. The plan is to involve all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh as Godavari is lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, it used to be largely confined to East and West Godavari districts. The program chosen to involve all the 13 districts is called ‘Godavari Sobha Yatra’.
The Godavari Sobha Yatra Program
- A group of pilgrims from each district led by a prominent spiritual leader shall reach the Godavari river at Rajahmundry by walk.
- On the designated day for the district, during the Maha Pushkaram, the group shall visit the Kotilingala ghat at Rajahmundry and collect the sacred water.
- The group carries the water back to their respective towns and villages. The sacred water shall be mixed in in local water bodies. The pious water shall also be used to perform ‘Abhishekham’ in temples at the respective places.
